I started day 2 very relaxed at 9am (woke up at 7am, very good sleep). With "only 17km" this day was shorter than day 1, so why not sleep a bit longer after that excausting day 1. Weather forecast was great again and I felt blest and lucky with so much sunshine. Again I expected more people on the trail, but it was super easy to be "alone". You can see in the video how far away in the distance other people are (if there are people at all). I really enjoyed hiking alone. Especially with all that filming... But of course I met other people. On these long hikes people have the same itenary most of the time. So you see the same people every day again and again, they overtake you, you overtake them. I met some very nice people and had good conversations. But mostly I chose and enjoyed to be "alone" on this hike. There was just 1 bigger tour group, probably the same than on day 1. But they left Álftavatn before me and I only saw them in the distance when they crossed the second river. And that helped me a lot to find the best "spot" to cross (thank you tour group!). I never saw that group again on that day or any later day. Same than on day 1 at no time the trail was technically difficult. I think that maybe with strong wind that "moon landscape" can feel very difficult. I felt some wind (it is always windy in Iceland), but it was always from behind. I saw people who obviously hiked the Laugavegur in the other direction (not many) and for them that day "sucked", because they had the wind from the front. So keep that in mind and maybe bring protection against "wind/dust in your face" (glasses, scarf/bandana, ...) so you are prepared in case it is very windy and dusty. This day started to feel "loooong" in the end, because for hours and hours I walked through that moon landscape. It is beautiful, but also excausting to walk and walk and walk for hours... I checked my map a couple of times in the end, because I worried that I was lost and on the wrong path. But finally I could see the "Emstrur" hut in the distance, phew... There are 2 river crossings on that day. The first one is 1.5km after Álftavatn. It is "rarely knee deep" and was easy when I did. But please ask the hut warden for conditions, i can be more difficult on a different day. The second one is 1.5km after Hvanngil. This is the deepest (I read "it can be as deep as your bum"), but was easy when I did it. But again: please ask the hut warden for conditions. The best spot to cross was not obvious near the main path, I had to explore a bit and walk a bit along the river. I had luck that there was that "guided group" in front of me and I could see where the guide chose to cross. So those big groups are not always "bad" to have on the trail ;-) Check out my video about all the river crossings: • Laugavegur Trail: All River Crossings Strava: / strava Official trail information: https://www.fi.is/en/hiking-trails/tr... https://www.fi.is/en/hiking-trails/tr...
