Pompeii Records, the Dallas-based label that once housed Ike & Tina Turner, The Ikettes, and Fontella Bass, had a proven track record of delivering major hits to the mainstream back in the day, carving out a vital space across late 60s and early 70s American rock, soul and funk. Now, over 50 years since its inception, Pompeii explodes back into life to shake off the dust and cast a well-earned light on the long-forgotten gems buried deep in its catalog. Cut in 1968, this self-titled debut from The Abstracts is the sound of the Los Angeles quartet pushing pop into stranger light. Recorded in Fort Worth but wired to West Coast circuitry, the record catches a young band's psychedelic experiments just before guitarist Tony Peluso moved into the national spotlight with the Carpenters.
