The third and final video here at Rochdale's 1913 J.J. Binns Organ is one I've played before, Simple Gifts, or the Shaker Hymn, although I was a bit worried about getting back to the station for my train back to Manchester Victoria (my tickets on split save were only valid via Huddersfield), so excuse some slop. This demonstrates the two Solo reeds on the Solo Division, (not the Tuba, although you hear it at the end in the Full organ), the Corno di Bassetto for the first and the Orchestral Oboe for the second. Then we go to a more congregational to full organ sound, and at the end, I use a trick playing a third on the pedals with my right foot which I call the Max Reger trick, as Reger uses this technique for example at the end of his Op 52 no.2 Wachet Auf and Op 52 no.3 Halleluja! Gott zu loben. I extend my thanks to Rochdale Council and Rochdale Town Hall staff for making me feel welcome playing this wonderful Binns organ, and will come again for sure! If you want to you can play this organ for £40 an hour, and for more amateury village organists like me, it is probably the closest that we'd get to having access to a Cathedral organ (and a Tuba!)!!
