Yesterday, I had the immense pleasure of playing on of the finest organs in the North West of England, the 1913 J.J. Binns organ of Rochdale Town Hall, which has been restored while the building was under renovation. The organ was built in 1913 by Binns and was donated by Alderman Sir Samuel Turner, former Mayor of Rochdale, based on experience of Binns organs at his place of worshop, Baille Street Methodist Church (that organ is now at Christ Church, Worthing). The organ was opened in front of King George V and Queen Mary by Herbert Walton, the then organist of Glasgow Cathedral on July 9th 1913. For the first video, which demonstrates the 8ft Tuba on the Solo Stop, it is the classic Battle Hymn of the Republic, Mine eyes have seen the the Glory, by Julia Ward Howe.....featuring little Lilly the Cockerpoo, although she is a plushie, just sitting there happily....I have having more fun than I should...and was feeling jittery from a coffee earlier as well as having had lunch nearby....excuse a few errors....
