That includes allowing your friends to join your Minecraft server, and we even go over how to change your server settings and OP yourself to be able to use commands. Let’s get started! First things first, you will need to download the Minecraft server.jar. There is a link to our guide for making a Minecraft server linked above where you can click “Download Minecraft” to go to the official download page for the Minecraft server.jar file. Click the “minecraft_server_version” link, and the file will download. Next, make a new folder on your desktop and move the server.jar to it. Double-click the server.jar, and your Minecraft server should attempt to start generating a few files and folders. If it doesn’t, you will need to get Java from the link in the description above. You should now have an eula.txt file. Open this file, and change eula=false to eula=true. Save the file, and you are good to go! You can now double-click the server.jar and your Minecraft server will start. You can now join your server using the IP address “localhost”. You can also open the server.properties file in notepad and change different settings related to your server. I would recommend joining your server with the localhost IP making sure things are working and that there is no lag. If there isn’t we can move on to allowing your friends to join your server. For your friends to join your server, you will need to port forward. Get started by opening up command prompt and typing “ipconfig” and hitting enter. You will get a few numbers, but we need your default gateway and IPv4 address. Type your default gateway into your browser and hit enter. This will open up a login box for your router. Login to your router and find port forwarding. This may also be called apps and gaming. Add a port forward for the port 25565 on the TCP and UDP protocols. Now, go to the link in the description above to your public IP. This is the IP address that your friends will use to join your server. With that, you now know how to host a Minecraft server from start to finish!
