What does success look like in an industry no one teaches you about? In this talk, Khyati Madaan, a film producer, explores the real operating system of the film industry, a business where the product life cycle is short, where you cannot relaunch if something fails, and where public sentiment ultimately decides everything. From building an accurate box office prediction model to navigating the chaos of film marketing and ultimately becoming a producer, she shares five key shifts: Data vs Unpredictability, the industry’s constant dynamism, films as a people-driven business, marketing as emotional engineering, and resilience beyond personality. In cinema, you don’t sell a product, you sell emotion. Khyati Madaan is a film producer and founder of Not Out Entertainment. An alumnus of IIM and NIFT, she has worked with top studios like Red Chillies Entertainment, Maddock Films and Disney across over 50 films including Shah Rukh Khan starrer Raees, Amitabh Bachchan starrer Badla, among many. In 2011, while still a student, she developed India’s first statistical box office prediction model, which proved to be 95 percent accurate across 32 films. Her upcoming films in production include a romantic horror comedy, called Abhootpurva, a horror film starring Ahan Shetty, a slice-of-life drama directed by Habib Faisal (known for Ishaqzaade, Do Dooni Chaar) and a heart-touching dramedy starring Jitendra Kumar (Jeetu) & Pooja Bhatt.
