Herping in hilly areas near Thessaloniki, Greece, May 2023. The first excursion happened on May 6 to the suburban forest Seich Sou from the Retziki region with V. We first found two Hermann’s tortoises (Testudo hermanni), one female and one male. Soon after another female T. hermanni that was eating some weeds. Then another well-contrasted female T. hermanni that was eating leaves, and then another quite large female T. hermanni. Later we found two male European legless lizards (Pseudopus apodus), a large one and a smaller one. After that, the snail Pomatias elegans, then a female T. hermanni, and then a female P. apodus. Also a large geophilomorph Himantarium gabrielis. Near the stream, we found a hatchling T. hermanni crossing the path, a little less than 4 cm. Under a stone, we uncovered a juvenile and probably female Caspian whipsnake (Dolichophis caspius) with a nice pattern. Later we caught a brightly-colored male green lizard (Lacerta viridis). On returning, we found a male T. hermanni with extensive fire damage and old injuries, and soon after another female T. hermanni. In the puddles, there were many yellow-bellied toads (Bombina variegata), as well as tadpoles of the common toad (Bufo bufo). Near the stream, a little wood scorpion (Euscorpius solegladi) was hiding under bark. Under the special stone, we found three slowworms (Anguis fragilis), one juvenile, one recaptured female and another female in shed. Sadly the two new ones dropped part of their tail. The next excursion happened on May 7 on Sivri mountain at Oreokastro with V. First we found a banded centipede (Scolopendra cingulata), and later a little juvenile blindsnake (Xerotyphlops vermicularis). Other than a Lacerta trilineata that escaped, no other reptiles were found. Cuckoo (Cuculus conoris) and scops owl (Otus scops) could be heard, and many Mediterranean earthworms (Octodrilus complanatus) were active at night. Herping σε λοφώδεις περιοχές γύρω από τη Θεσσαλονίκη, Μάιος 2023. Η πρώτη εξόρμηση έγινε στις 6 Μαΐου στο περιαστικό δάσος Σέιχ Σου από την περιοχή του Ρετζικίου με το Β. Πρώτα βρήκαμε δύο κοινές χελώνες (Testudo hermanni), ένα θηλυκό κι ένα αρσενικό. Μετά ένα ακόμα θηλυκό T. hermanni, που έτρωγε αγριόχορτα. Μετά ένα ακόμα θηλυκό T. hermanni με έντονη αντίθεση που έτρωγε φύλλα, και μετά μια άλλη μεγαλύτερη θηλυκή T. hermanni. Αργότερα βρήκαμε δύο αρσενικές φιδόσαυρες (Pseudopus apodus), έναν μεγάλο κι έναν μικρότερο. Μετά από αυτά, το σαλιγκάρι Pomatias elegans, μετά μια θηλυκή T. hermanni και μετά ένα θηλυκό P. Apodus. Κοντά στο ρέμα, βρήκαμε έναν νεοσσό T. hermanni να περνά το μονοπάτι, λίγο κάτω από 4 εκ. Κάτω από πέτρα, αποκαλύψαμε έναν νεαρό και ίσως θηλυκό έφιο (Dolichophis caspius). Αργότερα πιάσαμε μια ζωηρόχρωμη αρσενική πρασινόσαυρα (Lacerta viridis). Στην επιστροφή, βρήκαμε ένα αρσενικό T. hermanni με εκτεταμένες βλάβες από φωτιά και παλιά τραύματα, και σύντομα μετά ένα θηλυκό T. hermanni. Στα λιμνία είχε αρκετές μπομπίνες (Bombina variegata) και γυρίνους χωματόφρυνου (Bufo bufo). Κοντά στο ρυάκι, ένας μικρός μαύρος σκορπιός (Euscorpius solegladi) κρυβόταν κάτω από φλοιό. Κάτω από τη γνωστή πέτρα βρήκαμε τρία κονάκια (Anguis fragilis), ένα νεαρό, ένα θηλυκό από επανεύρεση κι ένα ακόμα θηλυκό σε έκδυση. Τα δύο νέα έριξαν μέρος της ουράς τους. Η δεύτερη εξόρμηση έγινε στις 7 του μηνός στο Σιβρί στο Ωραιόκαστρο με το Β. Πρώτα βρήκαμε μια σαρανταποδαρούσα (Scolopendra cingulata), κι αργότερα ένα μικροσκοπικό νεαρό σκουληκόφιδο (Xerotyphlops vermicularis). Εκτός από μια Lacerta trilineata που μας έφυγε, δε βρήκαμε άλλα ερπετά. Ο κούκος (Cuculus conoris) και ο γκιόνης (Otus scops) ακούγονταν. Οι μεσογειακοί γεωσκώληκες (Octodrilus complanatus) ήταν δραστήριοι τη νύχτα.
