Latest Research Findings From the Ongoing NIH RUNX1 Natural History Study

On April 29th, 2021, Dr. Keith Sacco, NIH Clinical Fellow of Allergy & Immunology, and Dr. Katherine Calvo, NIH Senior Research Physician Hematopathologist, shared detailed information on research findings from the NIH Clinical Research Study. Dr. Sacco presented findings on “Sex Differences in Allergic and Immunologic Disorders in Germline RUNX1 Deficiency” and how these conditions can affect RUNX1-FPD patients. Dr. Calvo shared "Bone Marrow Features of RUNX1 Familial Platelet Disorder,” providing an in-depth analysis of all of the blood cell types within the bone marrow including their number and their morphology (how the cells look under a microscope). These studies will help scientists understand what is different in RUNX1-FPD patients and if those differences can be linked to the development of blood cancer.
