Anchoring the Mineral Basin expansion, this 1999-Garaventa CTEC detachable quad has served almost all of its terrain with sister Baldy Express coming in 2 years later. A lot of the parts for the lift had to be hoisted up by the Aeriel Tram to increase convenience for everyone working on the project. The area is one of the last to open for the winter and one of the last-remaining areas to be open for spring and summer skiing, often joining with Little Cloud for Closing Day. Mineral Basin’s top terminal is quite short for a G-CTEC lift of its type due to limited spacing on Hidden Peak. Mineral Basin is my personal favorite lift in all the bird because of the way it is designed and the fast ride does make for some massive views of the surrounding basin and American Fork Canyon below. However, it has always been a hotspot for skiing at Snowbird, compounded by the fact that it is the only way to get out of the area unless you had an Alta-Bird pass (meaning you could theoretically take Baldy). So Mineral tends to be backed up due to its nature and right now there are plans to replace it with a 2,400 per hour six-pack potentially even a D-Line. If so, I want there to be 90-degree unloading to make unloading the lift less intimidating. In Summer 2017, tire speeds at the top terminal were adjusted slightly to allow for easier unloading.
