2018 is always a year I fondly think back to for railfanning, especially when it comes to crossings that I caught. This year, I was finally able to get down and film some crossings on the CSX Dothan Sub and the Bay Line Railroad, along with heading north and filming the Nashville & Eastern Railroad quite a bit, especially towards the end of the year, as they were bought by RJ Corman that year but RJ Corman's take-over wouldn't begin until the start of 2019. I also got to make a trip out west to the Reno, NV, area, along with a day trip over to Sacramento, CA, for some stuff. As a result of this trip, I got to film quite a bit of neat stuff in action for the first time. On particular highlight being Troy Street (AL 10) in Brundidge, which featured a classic ACL signal complete with most of its original US&S 8 inch lights (with all of their vandal guards) and an old cats-eyed crossbuck on it! Definitely an absolute highlight of my year for sure. This year was also the first year I got to see Griswold EM signals in person, along with Federal Signal gate mechs, thanks to my trip out west. I also got to film a crossing with split crossbucks in action for the first time as well, thanks to a trip to the Auburn/Opelika, AL, area that fall. I also got to get a bunch of neat older crossings on the Tennessee Southern Railroad filmed this year as well, along with those rare RSI "STOP" gate lights they had for a while for the first (and so far only) time. I even got to film some clear LEDs for the first time this year! This year also felt like a bit of a last "hurrah" for some older power as well, as NS wound-up having to lease a bunch of locomotives (including retired CSX Dash-8s, ex-BN SD60Ms, etc.) due to a surprise power shortage due to a bump in freight traffic this year. UP also pulled some of their neat older power back out of storage, including their Dash-8s, Dash-9s, and SD60Ms, which definitely added to the power variety on the rails at the time. I also caught the last SD80MAC I ever saw leading this year, along with my last ever SD80MAC trailing on another train a bit later in the year. Do miss those 80MACs, it's a shame all of them got scrapped... This year was also when the newer cantilever at Bob Wallace Avenue was installed, making a rather noticeable change that I'm only kinda used to these days. The crossing definitely looked a lot better back when it still had both WRRS cantilevers, though I suppose at least the one with the bell wasn't hit back in 2017 instead... Either way, 2018 was definitely a banger year for me crossing-wise, possibly eclipsed by only the following year for when it comes to the 2010s...
