Should one judge in Idaho be able to grant relief not asked for by the plaintiffs in a civil case? Traditional equitable principles would say no. But that's what the Idaho District Court did. It enjoined enforcement of Idaho's Vulnerable Child Protection Act even though plaintiffs had no standing to pursue that overbroad relief. The Ninth Circuit refused to stay the ruling. The Supreme Court stayed the ruling, and offered guidance to the lower courts on sticking to granting only the relief necessary to grant relief to the litigants - not the whole state or country. ===================================================== New to the channel?
