This is a hybrid orchestral piece in the style of epic film soundtracks and trailers. My idea for this piece began with the simple opening theme on piano that returns in later sections as a heavy, apocalyptic bass line. Part of my goal was to see how massive I could make those sections, so I focused a lot on production in this piece. But I also wanted to tell a bit of a story: the interlude sections offer a brief reprieve from the sound of impending doom, using the human voice to represent a light that survives the darkness. The Latin title means "After Darkness," and is a fragmentation of the fuller phrase, "after darkness, light," or "post tenebras lux." I got an idea for this piece after listening to the album "Outerlife" by the trailer music company Eternal Eclipse. There's also a little bit of inspiration from Yuki Kajiura's writing here, too.
