Amazon Affiliate Link: https://amzn.to/4hlae8I Price as reviewed: $220 COMICA XLR Shotgun Microphone, VP3 Shotgun Mic Super Cardioid Directional Condenser Microphone for Camera, Video/Audio Recording for Camcorders Content Creation, Film and TV Recording (New Version) From the COMICA Store This microphone is HOT. It was picking up background noise that I didn't even hear myself until I reviewed my recordings with headphones. I quickly learned to use the -10db pad setting by default. (I should also have been using the low cut filter setting in most of my example recordings, but if you listen to the video you'll hear everything it can pick up.) [Airplanes, birds, a random thrumming (AC fan motor?) in the background of my house....etc...] It does a good job picking up far away sounds (I could understand a voice about 90-100 feet away, although it was quiet at that distance and there was a lot of background noise as well). It has an XLR connector built into the base, but does come with a XLR to 1/8th (3.5mm) audio cable. If you are not providing 48v phantom power via the XLR port, you will need to provide your own AA battery that powers the pre-amp. Comica provides a foam windscreen, but no wind muff. My impression is that it is really designed to be used indoors at a studio, but they give you the foam wind guard just in case you want to do interviews with it. You also get a snap on microphone holder with a cold shoe attachment point and a 3/8" socket on the bottom (+ a 3/8 to 1/4 thread adapter). I used it on top of my Sony A6300 DSLR, and while the 9oz weight was manageable, the length of the microphone was oversize my camera, even with a 200mm zoom lens. The rear of the microphone stuck out the back so far that it was impossible to use the viewfinder, so I was left with the rear display for framing shots. I don't really recommend it for a handheld camera unless you have a large cage and handles for it. A handheld boom or table/floor mount would probably be a better mounting option. The package includes a hard plastic case with custom foam cutouts that stores everything. [I did melt a small hole for the 3/8 to 1/4 screw in adapter, otherwise it just sits in the bottom of one of the other holes.]
