i've been doing a lot of traveling for the past two months, so there hasn't been much opportunity to sit down and grind many speedruns. but after about a week and half or so not playing, i unfortunately re-confirmed that i do indeed love this game. so here's some vanilla to get back into the swing of things this is a really hard level to route rings around, given that the first available attraction shield is over halfway through the level. on top of that, it's a really long level, so i figured i'd leave it up to the campaign run to gather ring, time, and especially the star emblem behind the level's signpost. if i could get these three in the campaign run, i could ideally go back for a second run and cut it short after getting the last required emblem. fortunately, while the level's pars are fairly difficult to juggle, they're also fairly lenient, all things considered. (as a quick side note, if you lose the attraction shield a bit early in the campaign run there's a super ring monitor in the room with the falling rocks and fof lava fall cycles, and some extra shields near the end for the star emblem damage boost) as a quick side note, loose backups are available if you lose the attraction shield early. there's a super ring monitor in the room with falling platforms and fof lavafall cycles, as well as some extra shields near the end to enable the star emblem damage boost. however, this run's still gonna need a lot of practice given how unforgiving it can be -- again, rings aren't super readily available in this level so it's hard to scrape up any kind of backup in the first place to still hopefully be able to make it. the runs themselves are a little rough in some places. for example, i should probably spindash into the star emblem room but i couldn't find a good perch to do so in the moment (i did not practice that part of the level). but i kinda like that, since it means that there's plenty of room for mistakes in the rta run (as long as it's not something dire). i tried to fit metal into here because he makes for a really fast rvz and he wouldn't be used in the run at all otherwise, but it all came down to tails being able to skip the rock section -- usually metal can as well, but it requires a ton of overdrive and the reset strat i wanted to do for the club emblem doesn't accommodate that very well (especially given how fast tails skips the rock skip room). thinking about it now though, metal could potentially go straight to the diamond emblem then reset strat to the starpost near the club emblem (before the rock skip room) and that might be faster given overdrive's massive speed... we'll just leave that decision up to player preference for now ig
