Kansas City takes barbecue personally. And when you’re running ops at 2:00 a.m., it’s also what you eat before the night goes sideways. In this episode of The Debrief, retired ATF Task Force Supervisor Eric Immesberger tells the story of how one BBQ stop turned into an inside joke no one wanted to test a third time. First op: surveillance on a pattern armed robbery crew. They roll out masked up with guns. SWAT hits them on the exit. One ends up dead on scene, two go into custody. Second op: a major meth delivery after midnight. The delivery guy runs. DEA is in the mix. A supplier warrant turns into a barricade and a full-on shootout. By daylight, the guy comes out with a rifle trying to go Tony Montana… and it ends exactly how you think it ends. So when the next high-risk night comes up and someone says, “Let’s go to Bryant’s,” the team shuts it down immediately. No third time. No “trifecta.” Anywhere else. Eric also pulls back the curtain on what teams actually do off the clock—bringing his Kansas City squad to New York City for a major takedown, getting them into the Marriott Marquis on per diem (yes, really), giving them the full NYC tour, and ending with the legendary NYPD Emergency Service story they still laugh about today: The Wizzr. If you know, you know. If you don’t… you’re about to.
