(14 Dec 2025) LIBYA WOMAN MECHANIC SOURCE: ASSOCIATED PRESS RESTRICTION SUMMARY: LENGTH: 4:32 ASSOCIATED PRESS Tripoli, Libya - 13 December 2025 1. Car mechanic Rawan Abu Aeshah who specializes in car engine modification working on a car with her father 2. Various of Rawan working 3. Various of Rawan dragging and setting up an engine hoist 4. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Rawan Abu Aeshah, founder and director of company that specializes in fixing car engines: "What got me in this field was my father's work. He's a mechanical engineer. So since my childhood, we've been close to this profession. And since then, I got into the career. Even my studies in aviation engineering were related to mechanics, where we shared common subjects. And from there, my journey began." 5. Rawan starting car 6. Rawan driving car 7. Various of Rawan working on car 8. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Rawan Abu Aeshah, founder and director of company that specializes in fixing car engines: "We had a Nissan Navara at the time, that was the first car. Its owner came thinking of changing its engine, which could cost up to 7,000 Libyan dinars and even more. At that time, I wondered, why not replace it with another engine that reduces the burden on the customer and lowers the cost while increasing the car's longevity? That's how the idea came up to replace the engine of this car, replacing a Nissan Navara engine with a Mercedes engine. And that is when my journey began." 9. Various of Rawan working 10. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Rawan Abu Aeshah, founder and director of company that specializes in fixing car engines: "Luck was on my side. I participated (in a competition) and reached the finals, and I got first place in Libya as the best entrepreneurial and innovative project idea. After that, I registered a patent (locally). And from there, we started establishing a company, not just another workshop (for fixing cars)." 11. Various of Rawan working with her father 12. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Rawan Abu Aeshah, founder and director of company that specializes in fixing car engines: "For my dad it was normal, but he probably became a bit hesitant when he saw (people's) reaction to a girl doing this (work), and was wondering, 'how will you be able to deal with people?' I would say that the audience differs. If you are at a conference or somewhere similar for example, it is not the same as people coming to you for a service. It's not the same mentality. I thought it will be normal and smooth, but I found out that there is a difference in the way people deal with a man and a woman. For example, when I explain the problem with a car, they (clients) might not be convinced and think, what would she know? Even though what I am saying is right, they won't accept it from you only because I am a girl." 13. Rawan working with her father 14. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Abu Aeshah Ashour Quraysiah, Rawan's father: "Personally, I don't see any problem with this idea and I accept it. Secondly, negative opinions don't matter to me. Only positive opinions (matter). What is the problem with a woman who has got an idea? Maybe in the future, you will find a woman who fixes things, and maybe does it better than a man. Not all people are the same and everyone has their opinion. But for me, I accept the idea and I have no issue with it." 15. Rawan entering her workshop STORYLINE: Libyan car mechanic Rawan Abu Aeshah grew up around cars and didn't mind getting her hands dirty, so she launched a business that fixes and modifies car engines.
