UPDATE on Dan at the Hospital! GOOD NEWS!!!

It has been a HARD week! On 2/27/25 Dan suddenly started having insane pain. As a lot of you know, in addition to being paralyzed, he suffers from a condition an Extreme Chronic Pain Condition called Adhesive Arachnoiditis. Every day of his life he suffers through pain but when it gets so intense that he is literally screaming for hours on end and his at home medication is not even taking the edge off, we know to start looking for other problems. To catch up to speed you can watch our previous Video here:    • WARNING: EXTREME Pain | Dan’s in the Hospi...   One of the difficulties of being paraplegic is that you cannot feel some of your body parts. Because of that, you cannot tell if something is wrong until it manifests in nerve pain or you get sick in other ways. Dan's leg has been swollen and red since January. He did a round of antibiotics and hoped he had the Cellulitis under control but it either continued to fester from that point or just came back with a new infection. From what we understand, Cellulitis can be extremely painful. Dan does not feel the typical pain...it just 100% manifests through his nerve pain. It took a good 16+ hours for the doctors to finally get Dan's pain under control. I can not describe how horrible it is to watch the person you love literally SCREAMING in pain for that long. It is extremely frustrating to try to get the hospital staff up to speed on Dan's condition, how extreme it is and to understand that the typical medications for neuropathic pain are NOT GOING TO TOUCH HIS PAIN! It took several days to feel like the heavy hitting antibiotics were even touching the infection. There was talk of the necrotizing fasciitis & osteomyelitis (tissues, muscle, & bone possibly being infected). There was also talk of it spreading to his bloodstream and him being septic... there was talk of slicing his legs open to the bone to explore and possible amputation. It has all been terrifying and brought both of us to tears, panic & turning to God for guidance and comfort. Dan got to a very low point where as he says "Satan was really trying to get in my head" and discourage him... I hated seeing him like that. Dan took a turn for the better and was responding so well to the antibiotics that the doctors felt safe sending him home to finish a 10 day course of ORAL antibiotics! This was a total shock as we thought for sure he would have a PICC line and be on that for a while upon release! HE'S HOME!!!! As you'll see in this video, our youngest daughter's birthday was while Dan was in the hospital. We have a tradition in our home of decorating the hallway, putting balloons down everywhere, hanging a birthday banner, and putting streamers on our kid's doors so that when they wake up on their birthday morning, it is magical. We also do a birthday breakfast with fun shaped pancakes etc. I did not want to do all that without Dan being here to see the excitement on our daughter's face! We opted to not tell her it was her birthday (she turned 4 and was none-the-wiser) until Daddy was home. Yesterday, we were able to pretend it was her birthday (only 1 day late!) and have a whole day of celebrating her TOGETHER! We feel so blessed to have our WHOLE family home and in tact!!! We are so beyond thankful for the support we have had from family, friends, neighbors and ALL OF YOU! Thank you all for helping us out not only through prayers & kind words but also financially. It has been a struggle as we do now know what the out of pocket expenses for all of this are going to be. Dan has always been double covered with Medicare & Medicaid but we are fighting with Medicaid right now and he does not currently have coverage.
