Today we're going to be taking a look at the best wiring options for your 2018 Ford Edge. All right, here we have three options. This is the Hopkins, this is the CURT, and this is the Tekonsha. Now out of all three, we found that the quality of construction, the Tekonsha is just a lot more well built. When it comes to power output, although not major, the Tekonsha does offer a little more power. For ease of installation, although not much different, the Tekonsha will make it just a little bit easier on you to get it installed. The first being difference is the quality of construction. We found that the Tekonsha has a better quality. For example, the module box has sealer inside of here. There's only one group of wires coming out of one side as opposed to some of the other boxes have wires on both sides. Also found that the insulation on the wiring itself is thicker and just of a higher quality.Another major difference I noticed was the power wire itself. It's a much thicker gauge and has a much thicker insulation as opposed to, say, the Hopkins power wire. You can see the difference there. Now the reason the thicker wire is better, you're going to be able to run more power through it, it's going to stay cooler, and it's going to hold up much better over time compared to the thinner wire.Speaking of power, that is another difference we found in between the three. Now the Tekonsha's power output is 4.2 amps per circuit for your stop and turn signals and 7.5 amps for your taillights. The CURT, however, has three amps per circuit for your stop and turn signals and six amps per circuit for your taillights. The Hopkins, their specification was not listed. What that power output rating actually means is the higher the power output, the more lights you can run, the brighter your lights will be, and you can run all different styles of lights. The last major difference we found was the ease of installation. I'd say the biggest difference there is the box itself. As I said earlier, on the Tekonsha, you only have one set of wires coming out one side as opposed to some of the others with two. Being a smaller module, it's easier to find a spot to secure this. Not only can you use double-sided tape on the back of the module, you can use a zip tie and there's even a spot so you could use a screw. The CURT has a larger box with wires coming out both sides, so you need a little bit more room to secure this one. You can only use double-sided tape or zip ties to secure this. This is pretty much the same as the CURT. As far as the size goes, it's a little smaller, but there is wires coming out of both sides. It does have a slot here to put a zip tie and you can also use tape.As far as the similarities go, they're all going to provide you with the light signals that you need. With any one of these installed, they're going to give whatever you're pulling its brake lights, turn signals, and running lights. What I like about all three is that each kit is going to come with pretty much everything you need. You have your wiring, your power wire, some zip ties, some self-tapping screws, your fuse. That's pretty much the same for all of them.Another nice thing about all three of these is they're all going to be plug and play. What I mean by that is these connectors match up with your vehicle's factory wiring connectors so you literally just plug these in. You don't have to splice into your vehicle's factory wiring harness. If you look over here on our Ford Edge, we actually have the Tekonsha installed. As you can see, this is what it looks like. If you don't have a bracket, you would actually use your dust cap to hold it on your hitch. None of these come with brackets. If you need or want one, however, you can find them on etrailer.com. Overall, they're going to be really easy to connect to, and they're all going to get the job done. We hope this helps you when deciding what wiring to get for your Ford Edge.
