In this video we visit Berwick, a station on the Pakenham Line in Melbourne's outer south-eastern suburbs. Berwick is the busiest station on the Pakenham Line beyond Dandenong; being situated in close proximity to numerous high schools, Federation University's Berwick campus, Chisholm TAFE, and Casey Hospital. We start the video at the train station platforms. Here we mostly see the new High Capacity Metro Trains, but we also see the last Comeng train that ever ran regular revenue services on the Cranbourne and Pakenham Lines. This set was 590M-1174T-647M-644M-1172T-643M. The day after filming this video; the 23rd December 2022, this set ran a couple of morning peak services before being cascaded off the Cranbourne and Pakenham lines. From that moment on the Cranbourne and Pakenham Lines are 100% rostered to be operated by the High Capacity Metro Trains for regular revenue services. However, Comeng trains and the newer Siemens trains can still be seen on these lines operating extra special event services, such as football specials. We also see some V/Line Vlocity trains on Gippsland Line services, including one of the few services on the Gippsland line scheduled to stop at Berwick; the 3:24pm Melbourne - Traralgon service. On weekdays two services are scheduled to stop at Berwick to cater for the school/university crowds in the area. Afterwards we visit the brand new bus interchange which opened on the 30th October 2022. The interchange was built in conjunction with the nearby Clyde Road level crossing removal, which also included a multi-storey car park. We also take a tour of the new interchange and multi-storey car park; outlining its quirks and features. This isn't something I'd normally do but this time around I decided to do so. Because lets be honest; most Melbourne bus interchanges kinda suck. They're very basic in terms of amenity; they generally build bus bays with a basic seat and shelter and just call it a day. Berwick however is different; for once I feel as though Melbourne has made an attempt at building a good bus interchange that facilitates easy transfer between train & bus services, and provides good levels of amenity for bus passengers. I definitely think its among one of the best train station bus interchanges in Melbourne. Berwick is served by routes by 13 bus routes; all operated by Ventura Bus Lines (mostly out of Pakenham depot). These are routes 828, 831, 834, 835, 836, 837, 838, 839, 846, 847, 888, 889 and 899. Buses seen include Mercedes Benz O500LE's, Volvo B7RLE's, Volvo B8RLE's, and Scania K320UB's (including a K320UB hybrid).
