In this video we visit the new Greensborough station on the Hurstbridge Line in Melbourne's north eastern suburbs. The new Greensborough station opened on the 30th April 2023 and was built as part of the Hurstbridge Line Duplication project, which saw the line from Greensborough to Montmorency duplicated (and between Diamond Creek and Wattle Glen stations). In the video we take a quick look around the new station and see Metro Trains Melbourne X'trapolis 100 trains arrive and depart the station. Along with the usual six-car trains in service, we also see some three-car trains pass through not in service as Metro was conducting driver training between Macleod and Wattle Glen along the newly duplicated line. This video was filmed around a week after opening. The platforms were largely fully complete bar some minor touches, and the concourse structure was also largely complete. Inside the concourse only the lifts and toilets were operational. I spoke to the stationmaster and they estimated that the ticket office and enclosed waiting room are still another 6 - 8 weeks from opening. There's still plenty of work to be done outside with the finishing touches around the station expected to be completed by the end of the year. The new multi-level car park and bus interchange on the corner of Para Road and Flintoff Street being built as part of a separate project is expected to be completed by late 2024. Overall though my first impressions of Greensborough are quite positive; I think they've built quite a good station. It's a nice functional station with a simple easy to navigate layout and a largely enclosed concourse that will provide good levels of amenity for passengers. On this particular morning it was raining and the shelters over the stairs and platforms were doing a good job at keeping me dry; something that can't be said for some other new stations. I'm definitely keen to see the station when its fully completed to see all of the operational amenities and see how the station integrates with the surrounding area. The new station is a definite upgrade over the old 1970 station which preceded it. Date: May 2023 Subscribe to ThebusofdoomFSX: https://www.youtube.com/user/Thebusof...
