Processing the Shock: My Mom’s Stroke, Ventilator, and What Comes Next

Sunday night, I got the call no one wants. The nursing home said my mom was found on the floor, and she was not responding like herself. Within an hour, they suspected a stroke and sent her to the ER. At the hospital, her potassium was dangerously high, which had happened before due to kidney issues. As they worked to bring it down, we saw moments of improvement and then another turn when they needed to start dialysis using CRRT. Her body went into shock, she coded, they performed CPR, and she was placed on a ventilator. In this video, I share what happened step by step, what the nurses and doctors looked for, and what it feels like to navigate the unknown as a son and caregiver. I also talk about our family history, the grace we hold for my mom, and the mental load of preparing for updates in the middle of the night while trying to stay hopeful and realistic.
