Turdilli (Calabrian Wine Cookies) There are smells that aren’t just childhood memories—they are Christmas ❤️🎄 The honey melting on the stove, oil warming in the pan, Mama moving quietly through the kitchen before sunrise while the house glowed with tree lights. We’d all squeeze into that warm kitchen—music low, flour on the table—my brother, my sister, and I rolling dough, laughing at uneven pieces while Mama smiled and told us they were perfect. When the turdilli hit the oil, the house came alive with honey, pine, coffee, and laughter. Those moments are what made Christmas feel like Christmas—the kind you don’t realize you’re collecting until years later, when you’d give anything to step back into that kitchen one more time ❤️🎄 And this time, we made them the way Mama does best. using @gratsiwine red, adding another layer of warmth and memory to a classic that will always feel like home. 🍯🍷 Ingredients • 1 cup Gratsi red wine • 1 cup honey (plus more for coating) • 1 cup oil (vegetable or olive) • 5½ cups Caputo flour • Vegetable oil, for frying Instructions 1. In a saucepan, bring wine, honey, and oil to a gentle boil. Remove from heat. 2. Add flour to a stand mixer and slowly pour in the warm liquid. Mix until a smooth, pliable dough forms. 3. Roll dough into 1-inch ropes, cut into 2-inch pieces, and roll on a basket or fork to create grooves. 4. Fry in hot vegetable oil until golden. Drain on paper towels. 5. Warm honey and roll the turdilli until fully coated. Place on a plate without overlapping. Serve warm or at room temperature and enjoy this Calabrian classic ❤️🍯
