Burundi Exhibition FHD

In November 2023, InfoNile with funding from JRS Biodiversity and IHE Delft Water and Development Partnership Programme, held a regional exhibition at CELAB, in the University of Burundi. This exhibition featured two stories; The Silent Witness by Selecous Ndihokubwayo and Helena Kreiensiek and Burundi Wildfires by Espoir Iradukunda. The Silent Witness is a photomap by two photojournalists as they tracked The Nile River's Flow through Burundi from its source to the point it leaves the country. In this photo story, the journalists documented the stories they encountered along the way as they followed the flow of the river. Stories from the present and the past, of hope and despair, all witnessed by the Nile. In Burundi Wildfires, Espoir explores how wildfires occur nationwide in Burundi’s wildlife reserves which could last about 16 weeks. These fires are caused by farmers who use traditional agricultural methods to remove existing vegetation to replant as well as breeders in search of fresh pasture which destroy grasslands and contribute to tree cover loss. Some animal species also seem to have disappeared as they run away in summer when wildfires are recorded and they do not come back. The objective of this exhibition was to spark engagements with the students, residents and policy makers about their experiences, knowledege and commitments on key themes in the stories.
