Inside of the concentration camps established by the SS and the Third Reich, there were many stories of bravery and defiance. One of the most brutal stories from Auschwitz was of Mala Zimetbaum and Edward Galinski. The pair were both prisoners, and they fell in love and together they planned to escape from the evil concentration camp. Edward Galinski was dressed in an SS guard uniform, and Mala as a prisoner and the pair managed to escape to nearby towns. They spent two weeks on the run before they were arrested in the mountains near to the Slovakian border. But the way the SS dealt with escapees was incredibly harsh, and the pair were sentenced to death following being imprisoned in the terrifying punishment block of Block 11. Edward Galinski was executed on the Gallows of Auschwitz, and he defiantly went to his death. Mala Zimetbaum also did this, but it's believed she resisted and even hit out at an SS guards. She was beaten before she died, and there are different accounts of her death, and it's even been accused that the SS guard Maria Mandl ordered her to be burned alive.
