The view from here is magnificent, with Kishu to the east, Muroto to the west, the Pacific Ocean to the south, and the Shikoku Mountains to the north. The village is named ``Mugi Town Debajima Traditional Building Preservation District'' and has been selected as a nationally important traditional building preservation district. The reason for its selection was that it was ``a fishing village that was formed by the Tokushima clan's immigration encouragement and expanded with the rise of bonito fishing from the late Edo period (19th century) to the early Showa period,'' and that it was ``a fishing village with a uniform size and type of fishing village.'' The landscape of the village, lined with houses, has developed and is of high value to our country." This is Oike in the southwestern part of Debajima. Shiratamamo, which is designated as a national natural monument, grows wild here. Shiratamamo is a seaweed belonging to the Characeae family that flourished during the Cretaceous period of the Mesozoic era (140 million years ago).It is said to be a living fossil, and this is the only place where it grows naturally in Japan. Fresh water flows in from the mountain side, and seawater flows in from the sea side, making the ratio of seawater to freshwater 2:1, making the pond ideal for the natural growth of Shiratamamo. Although there are no sightseeing spots or entertainment facilities such as amusement or leisure on Debajima, it offers nostalgic and emotional scenery, a quiet and slow flow of time, and a relaxing space.
