Horror Month: Haunting Ground, Part 4: Victory!

Originally streamed Nov 6, 2023. The seventh proper annual "Horror Month." It's back to a variety of horror games from a variety of systems, including my first Dreamcast game onstream! Haunting Ground is a spiritual successor to the Clock Tower games, made by Capcom and some of the same developers as Clock Tower 3. The thing about this, I am really not a big fan of Clock Tower 3. I feel like it's tone is all wrong, and it doesn't really nail the feeling of Clock Tower games. This doesn't exactly feel like Clock Tower either, it feels like more of it's own thing, but it certainly is a much much better successor than Clock Tower 3 is. This game is graphically extremely beautiful. I love the character designs, the setting, everything about it. The soundtrack is pretty great as well. This game has a real grittyness and intensity to it with it's stalkers that even Clock Tower doesn't quite have. It really gives it it's own feel. The Japanese name of the game is Demento, a better name which really suits the game well. This game also shares something in common with the cult classic Rule of Rose: it has dog mechanics! Your dog plays a very important role in this game, and is quite a good character in it's own right. Adding the dog in was a great decision. This is yet another really great horror game for the PS2, which is just simply the champion system when it comes to horror games.
