Claim your FREE 6-part video series training and learn how to play jazz guitar here: https://mastery.jazzguitarlessons.net/ In the spirit of following up on the TOOLBOX series (published in 2020 on this Youtube channel), in this vlog, we'll elaborate some comping ideas on basic II-V-I in the key of C major. In short, the previous videos in the series covered basic chord shapes. And then basic progressions. In the current video we step it up a notch with more melodic ideas for comping. In short, our point of departure is here (1st way): Dm7 as x535xx G7 as 3x34xx Cmaj7 as x324xx And 2nd way Dm7 as 10 x 10 10 x x G7 as x 10 9 10 x x Cmaj7 as 8x99xx The first order of business is, of course, removing the root or bass note. Then we elaborate on "top note melodies" for all the chords. And practice together (with a metronome) You'll see, the G7 can get sorta crazy with these b9 and #11 ! Hope you enjoy the video. Please let me know if you have further questions.
