This is the bottom of the 8th inning from the September 30, 2021 game between the New York Mets and the Miami Marlins at the Citi Field stadium. Actually, it's just a portion of it - only three batters - but what a portion it is! The video begins with Francisco Lindor at the plate, awaiting his first pitch from Miami pitcher Luis Madero. The Mets already have a 6-3 lead, and the bases are loaded - but there are two outs. Francisco Lindor connects with the first pitch, an 89.1mph four-seam fastball, for a grand slam to right field, his 20th home run of the year. • Runner Jeff McNeil scores from 3B. Mets 7, Miami 3. • Runner Jonathan Villar scores frin 2B. Mets 8, Miami 3. • Runner Brandon Nimmo scores from 1B. Mets 9, Miami 3. • Batter Fransicso Lindor scores on the grand slam. Mets 10, Miami 3. Michael Conforto is the next batter. In a five-pitch at-bat, Conforto connects with an 80.4mph slider for a ground-rule double (20) on a fly ball down the left field line. This was his last Citi Field plate appearance as a New York Met. At this point, Miami makes a pitching change. Sandy Leon replaces Luis Madero. Pete Alonso is the first batter Leon faces. In a two-pitch at-bat, Alonso connects with a 79.1mph fastball for a home run (37) on a line drive to center field. • Runner Michael Conforto scores from 2B. Mets 11, Miami 3. • Batter Pete Alonso scores on the home run. Mets 12, Miami 3. Javier Baez is the next batter, and at this point we conclude our presentation. The video fades out after Leon's first pitch to Baez, a 63.7mph fastball for ball one. (Baez will ground out to end the inning.) There are a couple of amusing moments on the Citi Vision video board during the replays of the home runs. The replay from the behind-the-plate camera as it follows both Lindor's and Alonso's blasts into the seats gets very shaky, as if the video was shot by a fan on his phone while simultaneously jumping up and down in joyous celebration. This video was shot from section 518, row 1, seat 11. (20210930_221333)
