Shan Cultural Preservation Dance Troupe

At Thai Freedom House we focus part of our efforts on teaching minority languages and keeping the culture and history alive for our students who have been forced from their homelands. The language and arts classes are led by refugees themselves and include Shan and Burmese language, Chinese language and Shan traditional dance. Here is a short video clip of our students practicing Shan traditional dance with some of our foreign volunteers. They are so proud to see and know that others are interested in their culture and LOVE it when volunteers take a particular interest in making a cultural exchange. Right now they are preparing for a competition at a temple festival in November of this year and we are trying to raise about 9,000baht to have traditional costumes made for all of our dancers. In our charity cafe in Chiang Mai, Thailand we have golden starts hanging from a mobile and for every 500baht (about 17USD) that you donate, you can write your name and a message to our students on a golden star to help them reach their goal.
