When Art Therapy Goes Global | Mercyhurst University’s Faculty-Led Quest in Peru

In Cusco, Peru, Mercyhurst University Art Therapy students stepped beyond lectures and into meaningful service through a faculty-led United Planet Quest. From deep cultural immersion in the historic heart of Cusco to hands-on art therapy sessions at a local after-school program, students transformed academic learning into human connection. Through creative projects like puppet-making, painting, and friendship bracelets, the group used art as a bridge for self-expression, teamwork, and trust. The experience was thoughtfully balanced with reflection and renewal, including visits to Rainbow Mountain and Machu Picchu, allowing students to process their impact within Peru’s rich cultural and historical landscape.
