Serious illnesses like cancer can cause deep emotional or spiritual pain and suffering about life, meaning, or purpose. Many years of research show that a type of treatment called psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy (PAP) may help people feel less anxious, depressed, or overwhelmed. This treatment combines certain medicines—such as psilocybin, LSD, MDMA, or ketamine—with guided talk therapy to help people explore their thoughts and feelings. We invite you to view this discussion about ketamine-assisted psychotherapy (KAP). The Breast Cancer Coalition is pleased to welcome Dr. Rob Horowitz, a medical doctor and professor at the University of Rochester Medical Center. Dr. Horowitz also leads Pal-KAP, the first program in the country to offer this therapy within palliative care. During the program, Dr. Horowitz will: 1. Explain the history and science behind psychedelic-assisted therapy 2. Talk about how ketamine works and important safety issues 3. Describe who may or may not be able to take part in this type of therapy 4. Share how the Pal-KAP program was created and how it works 5. Talk about what has been learned from the program, including a patient story #PsychedelicTherapy #PsychedelicAssistedTherapy #CancerCare #MentalHealth
