Dee learns how to trust: First groundwork/ride

"Lady of the Dee"- My new 16hh 4yo off track thoroughbred mare. This was filmed on my 3rd day of owning Dee, her last race was 2 weeks prior to this. So this is Dee's very first time doing some ground work and her first ride since being off the track. As you can see she had very little trust to begin with, which is perfectly normal for a horse with her background. But she was brilliant to work with, and was a gem undersaddle. Unfortunately I couldn't get anybody to film me, so it's just dodgy camera sitting on the fence filming, but better then nothing. What I'm doing here is gaining her trust, and teaching her how I would like her to behave. Taking her for walks on the lead, just spending time with her in the paddock, talking to her, grooming ect. all really helps to build your relationship between you and your horse. The groundwork here is desensitizing, towards ropes and 'scary objects'. You can see how much she improves towards the end. She was soo nice to ride, didn't put up a fuss once. The camera was only focused on one spot of the arena, so you miss out of half of what went on, but I'm hoping to have somebody filming me riding her soon. I managed to get a lovely slow trot from her, a canter on both leads and she backs up. Very proud of her :) Definitely more videos of Dee to come!
