Learn about evidence based non-pharmacologic interventions and strategies with Dr. Lennie Swenson, DPT. In session two, we will explore evidence-based non-pharmacologic interventions and strategies with our presenter, Dr. Lennie Swenson, DPT. Dr. Swenson is a physical therapist who specializes in neurologic conditions and Cardiovascular Autonomic Dysfunctions (CAD) in Parkinson's disease. CAD is a common but often under-recognized symptom that can significantly affect one's mobility, safety, and quality of life. Dr. Swenson will cover the clinical features, assessment, and physical therapy management strategies relevant to CAD in individuals with Parkinson's disease. Dr. Swenson will further discuss other evidence-based interventions with a focus on the non-drug strategies often used in physical therapy to address non-motor symptoms. This will include exercise prescription principles, modifications, and monitoring in the context of autonomic instability. Dr. Lennie Swenson, DPT, holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Modern Dance and a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree. Dr. Swenson co-founded the Grey Matters Dance for Parkinson's Program in Utah. She has served on the board of the Mountain West Parkinson Initiative and is a certified vestibular rehabilitation specialist. Dr. Swenson has been the lead physical therapist in the DPT program at the University of Utah and currently assists with the motor control and neuromuscular courses in the program. She was an early adopter of using PT to evaluate and treat individuals with Functional Neurological Disorder (FND) Dr. Swenson has presented on this topic at the 2025 APTA Combined Sections Meeting (CSM) and in 2021 presented an education session at this same meeting entitled Cardiovascular Autonomic Dysfunction in Parkinson's Disease: Implications for Exercise and Clinical Practice. Later, she created learning content for the Academy of Neurologic Physical Therapy website and has presented on dysautonomia in PD at a local dysautonomia journal club. Dr. Swenson is the owner of Movement is Medicine Neurologic and Vestibular Physical Therapy, LLC.
