Featured in this set: GROOVE: ESP-10. 0:10 GROOVE 2001: ESP-9. 1:59 SATURDAY NIGHT LOVE: ESP-8. 3:47 This video is a CURRENT run of all three of these to bring them up to speed with my latest play standard. And also to pay specific tribute to one of my favorite singers in the BEMANI series with some hot PFCs! Brenda Vaughn is one of my all time favorite vocalists in DDR and Bemani in general. Her soulful voice carried every song she took a part of and there was no mistaking it when you heard it. Groove in particular holds a tremendous amount of sentimental value to me. The first time I heard it was from a store demo of Konamix. NEVER heard this song in my life prior to this but hearing that melody and HER vocals got me HOOKED at first listen and has held on to this day! Told myself when I finally work up the courage to play a game in the series on an actual cab I NEED to find that song and play it. I played it and failed it, both on controller at that store, and when I eventually got the courage to challenge an 8 on EXTREME. But I always vowed to play this at least once a session until I got it. I think I got it pretty good these days. Always did find it upsetting that she didn't have more songs on DDR at least. In Beatmania she had quite a few more and damn if I didn't wish some of them crossed over. I guess if there's anything though, EXTREME 2 CS really got my attention when I heard SOTA was hooking us up with another Brenda collaboration, and man did it NOT disappoint! The chart might not win any awards, but IMO it's probably the best song with her vocals in the series IMO. NOW, those ratings for GROOVE and GROOVE 2001 are definitely from that location test. IMO I think both should be 10s, as I remember the originals were considered an 8 and a 7, but I've always thought the 8 was a little too much. Though to be honest, if it's even remotely about timing, I can kinda see how it COULD be seen as an 8 now as it does have some rather tough jumps and patterns if you're not used to them like that. SATURDAY NIGHT LOVE as an 8 makes sense all day long. It's an easy song, good for accuracy training and/or just getting yourself into the higher difficulties for the first time. My original Judge 4 run for GROOVE had this as a "MFC" in quotes because well 22ms ain't no Marvelous! LOL. But either way, what's here is totally acceptable. I expected this to be over 20 in all honesty. GROOVE 2001 was the big surprise of this set. There always seems to be that ONE song you'll play sometimes where things just feel like they click and this was the one instance here. Had I not started choking up a bit midway this could've been single digits! On the other hand, I do feel like SATURDAY NIGHT LOVE could've been a little better executed than it was given its speed and simplicity. I'll put this in my rotations for MFC target practice, as I KNOW this could be single digits if I play it right.
