Ronald Hedden will do a demonstration of his processing techniques using free software packages including GIMP, Siril, ImagesPlus, Fitswork, Starnet++, and more. In particular, he will fully process Terry Robison's NGC 55 data set. The image data are publicly available so that you can download it and follow along: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1PD7c.... Ron's AstroBin: https://www.astrobin.com/users/rhedden/ Ron started astrophotography in the late 1990s using a film camera, but soon realized that he did not want to go any further into film developing, hand paddle guiding, or modified cameras. After a 15 year hiatus, he resumed his journey into the cosmos in pixelated fashion with his first CCD camera. From 2012-2017, he enjoyed imaging under the warm, dark skies of West Texas and sometimes New Mexico. In January 2018, he moved to upstate NY, and could only image in the summer months at a dark sky site about an hour away. Moving into a house at the edge of the suburbs in 2020 now allows him to acquire images from his own backyard for the first time, in a Bortle 4+ zone. He process most of his images using GIMP as the main platform, with help from additional open source or freeware programs such as Deep Sky Stacker, Siril, Fitswork, Regim, ImagesPlus, and Starnet++. 🔭 Subscribe to our channel for more astrophotography tutorials: https://bit.ly/TAIC-subscribe 💫 What do you want to learn about?
