This nine-mile circular walk around Grafham Water offers a perfect blend of wide-open views, woodland pockets, and steady lakeside trails, made all the better by Mrs W’s excellent company, even if frequent blackberry-picking stops add an unexpected rhythm to the journey! Setting off from the Visitor Centre on the eastern shore, the route follows a well-marked footpath northward toward the village of Grafham, where quiet lanes lead onward to Hill Farm. Here, the walk reconnects with the northern shoreline, passing through Savage’s Spinney, its trees standing as a natural barrier between land and water. The gentle sweep of the path carries the walk down to Littless Wood, where the landscape shifts once more. The final leg winds through Perry, hugging the southern shore before reaching the dam’s crest, a high vantage point where the full expanse of Grafham Water unfolds in panoramic beauty. With miles well-travelled and hands stained from berries, the journey closes back at the Visitor Centre, a walk woven with nature, companionship, and the quiet joy of unhurried discovery.
