"Alaskan Mill" Goes Electric (An exploration of milling timber with an electric chainsaw)

As a hobby wood-turner I have chosen to specialise in working with wood sourced locally from the management of woodlands, parks, estates and private gardens, all yielding some superb timber much of which would otherwise be destined for firewood! A chainsaw is an essential tool in the first stage of converting this raw lumber into useable wood-turning blanks. Living in a densely populated suburban area in the UK, my tool of preference is an electric rather than a petrol driven chainsaw to minimise noise and atmospheric pollution. This video illustrates my initial exploration of using an electric chainsaw with a small mobile chainsaw mill (commonly referred to as an Alaskan Mill). These mills maximise the yield of timber and also provide much more control and safety when compared to the risks of free cutting with a chainsaw. This video is a revised replacement for three separate videos posted in 2019.
