Sunday Evening Service Title: The Healing Ministry of Jesus Scripture: (Matthew 17:14–21) Introduction: Why Jesus Came • Human beings as originally created – There was no sickness. • Humanity separated from God – Because of sin, sickness and death entered the world. • The twelve conditions of fallen humanity – Self-centeredness, possession-centeredness, success-centeredness / falling into shamanism, fortune-telling, and idols / spiritual condition, mental condition, life condition, physical condition, death, and the next generation. • Why Jesus came – Salvation and healing. • The healed human being – Enjoying one’s identity and exercising God-given authority. Main Message If we were to summarize Jesus’ ministry in the Gospels in one word, it would be healing. Jesus did not only preach the Word—He restored broken people. He healed sick bodies, wounded hearts, broken relationships, and even the separation between God and humanity. In today’s passage, we see the story of a boy whom the disciples could not heal. This is not merely a healing story; it clearly reveals why some problems remain unsolved and where true healing truly comes from. 1. Root-Level Healing 1) Jesus saw the root. The boy’s condition was extremely serious: “He is demon-possessed and suffers terribly. He often falls into the fire or into the water” (v. 15). This was not just a physical illness. It was a long-standing problem that was destroying the child’s entire life. What matters is that Jesus looked beyond the symptoms and saw the root. 2) People focus on visible problems. We fixate on grades, personality, habits, addictions, and emotional instability. But Jesus saw the spiritual root behind them. “Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of the boy” (v. 18). 3) True healing does not just treat the surface—it deals with the root. Jesus’ healing is not temporary comfort but a fundamental restoration that changes the direction of life. That is why His healing always leads to the restoration of the Kingdom of God. 2. The Power of Healing Comes from Faith 1) The disciples quietly asked Jesus: “Why couldn’t we drive it out?” (v. 19) 2) Jesus’ answer was clear: “Because you have so little faith… If you have faith as small as a mustard seed…” (v. 20) This does not mean we need a large or extraordinary faith. (1) Jesus is not talking about the size of faith, but its direction. • Is it faith that relies on myself? • Or faith that fully trusts God? (2) Mustard-seed faith is not the confidence that “I can do it,” but the confession that “The Lord will do it.” When we have that kind of faith, even problems that seem immovable like mountains are moved by God’s way. 3) Healing does not come from techniques or experience. The power of healing always flows from faith that is directed toward God. 3. The Source of Faith: Prayer and Fasting 1) Jesus made a decisive statement: “This kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting” (v. 21). • Prayer and fasting do not create faith; they are the place where faith grows. • Prayer is not merely a tool to solve problems—it is a lifeline that connects us to God. • When we look at Jesus’ life, we see that before and after important ministries He always withdrew to pray, and at times fasted before God. In that deep fellowship, faith became power, and power became healing. 2) Faith without prayer is easily shaken, and devotion without fasting does not last long. But when prayer and fasting are restored, faith comes alive again and God’s authority is released. 3) Where does the faith that clings only to God come from? Romans 10:17 — “So then faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.” Conclusion: A Life that Participates in Jesus’ Healing Ministry Jesus’ healing ministry is not just something of the past. Even now, Jesus heals broken people and sets bound lives free. 1. If you want root-level healing, come before Jesus. (Summit Club – early morning, daytime, and night; five powers, five vessels) 2. If you want the power of healing, set the direction of your faith correctly. (Red Diamond – the secret task force entering the mystery of 24-hour prayer, Holy Mason entering the power of 25 answers, the next-generation ministry team entering the blessing of eternal works) 3. If you want unshakable faith, return to the place of prayer and fasting. Wait in prayer until the Kingdom of God comes. From that place, with God’s power, we heal and save people. (Camp Team – the three successes of today, five gatherings of light in the field, the absolute watchtower) Today Jesus does not call us only to be healed—He calls us to become channels of healing. May this be a year in which we participate in the healing ministry of Jesus.
