Hello all you STEM fanatics out there, Today, we are going to test our litmus strips on different liquids, to see if there are acids or bases. The purple pigment in red cabbage, anthocyanin, is a great indicator of acids and bases. We are going to test 4 different liquids to see if they are acids or bases, and then we are going to test 3 mystery liquids to see if we can figure out if they are an acid or a base, and what pH they are. Remember, acids have a low pH (0-5) and bases have a higher pH (9-14). We've learned that acids are sour and bases are bitter and slippery. But, tasting and touching different chemicals isn't the best way to see if it's an acid or base, especially if you don't know what it is OR if it isn't food. 😲🤮💀 We'll learn about our new pH testing strips and what colors they will change to when they touch acids or bases. It's a fun experiment and a great way to learn about different items around the house and see if they are acids or bases!
