In my previous video on the extent of speed conservation [ • The Extent of Speed Conservation ], many people all commented asking the same question: could we conserve speed into the demo? I had overlooked this possibility when I made that video, and so I got to work investigating it. The results I found were non-trivial, and so instead of merely replying to each of those comments with a wall of text, I figured it'd be simplest to document the findings in a new video. So can we conserve speed into the demo? On the US version, we cannot because demo-Mario always starts off standing/falling, resulting in sliding speed being lost. On the Japanese version. however, we have access to spawning displacement. So if we use spawning displacement to have demo-Mario start off on a steep slope, then the sliding speed will in fact be conserved into the demo.
