March was pretty exciting. I went to Germany to spend my birthday there. I helped my mum out in the garden and met up with old friends in Berlin to play Mini Golf 3D (loved it) and we also visited a chocolate festival (that also sold a lot of pistachio dishes, Dubai chocolate I guess.) Then it was time for a birthday treat: A trip to Thuringia, which is a few hours south of where I grew up. On the way we popped into 2 places: Pömmelte Wood Henge, a Neolithic ceremonial circle similar to Stonehenge, beautifully reconstructed with colourful art. Connected to that was the next destination: The Nebra Ark, a visitor centre that explains the mystery behind the Nebra Sky Disc, an ancient tool of astronomy, found on a hill near the centre. But I is believed to be calibrated to the Pömmelte Wood Henge. By the time we arrived at our accommodation in Bad Liebenstein, the sun was setting and we were met with the most spectacular landscape views. I still can't get over the view I had from my window! We settled and went for a little walk. The next day was full on. We started off with a tour of Altenstein Cave, which was enhanced by the duke who owned the land to have tours and concerts. But rare bats also use it to hibernate. And cave bears used to. We then explored the park around Altenstein Castle, which includes interesting geological rock formations. The castle is being restored and wasn't open, but there was enough to see. After finishing our walk we had some food and headed up to Liebenstein Castle Ruin to catch the sunset. What a perfect timing, it was gorgeous. And very atmopsheric. We only stayed two nights at our hotel, which was originally built for sick and stressed people to recuperate and has a spring with healing water. So we packed up and left, but there was more to do. I had noticed the Dragon Gorge (Drachenschlucht) on Googlemaps and seen the photos, so I wanted to experience it for myself. It's a gorge that gradually narrows down until you can just about comfortably walk through the mossy rock. We caught a great light moment as well with the morning sun sitting on the damp moss. From there we walked though the forest to a famous castle: The Wartburg, where Martin Luther hid away after his excommunication and translated the New Testament into German. The Wartburg has lots of other history and amazing architectural features so I enjoyed it very much. The next day Conor I picked up Conor at the airport so he join my birthday spa day and feast on the 23rd. But first we walked around Brandenburg and visited Saint Catherine's Church and the marshes. On the 26th we flew home to Scotland and on the drive home decided to stop by Kilmagad Wood for a walk. I loved the view over Loch Leven. I hope you enjoy this (not so) little educational vlog. ☟☟☟ ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ My name is Elena and I am a creative based in Scotland.
