Can you build high-end furniture from scrap pallet wood? After a year away from the workshop, I decided to find out. This project wasn't just about building a butcher-block style bar table; it was about getting back to the tools and finding a bit of mental clarity through the craft. This build was a massive learning curve. From milling down 121 individual end-grain blocks to an absolute nightmare battle with epoxy bubbles, plenty went wrong. I learned the hard way why you never skip a seal coat, and why sometimes the "safe" route with a router is actually the most difficult. In this video, I take a metal base I’ve had squirreled away for over a decade and pair it with a top made entirely from reclaimed pallet timber. It’s not a perfect professional build, but it’s a honest one. Woodworking is more than just making things—it’s therapy. In this video: De-nailing and milling reclaimed pallet wood. Glueing up a complex 121-block end grain pattern. The Router vs. Saw debate (and why I chose the hard way). Battling the "Epoxy Nightmare": 5 coats of resin and a week of sanding. Restoring a 10-year-old metal base with a fresh enamel finish. Reflecting on why we make things with our hands.
