Today, we’re diving into a lively, upbeat tune called Old Molly Hare. This is a fun contrast to last week’s murder ballads. It’s a great song for anyone looking to explore a bit of up-the-neck playing without the complexity—no need to go past the seventh fret! Once you've got the tab in front of you, tune up to double C tuning (g, C, G, C, D). If you're currently in standard open G tuning, all you need to do is raise your second string from B to C and lower your fourth string from D to C. If you’re not comfortable with the drop thumb just yet, don’t worry! You can simplify the song and still make it sound great. This lesson encourages you to experiment, adjust, and make Old Molly Hare your own. The tab is just a guide, and as you get more comfortable, feel free to modify or embellish as you see fit. Playing Through the Tab We break the song down into two main lines. In the second line, you’ll tackle fretted alternate string pull-offs, which can be tricky but are great for developing more advanced right-hand technique. Remember, if you're aiming for speed, simplifying certain sections might be the way to go, especially when playing with others in a jam setting. Making the Song Your Own One of the best parts of playing Old Molly Hare is the opportunity to bring your own style into it. Whether that’s adding syncopation, leaving out a few notes to create more space, or experimenting with embellishments, the goal is to find what feels and sounds good to you. Mistakes are part of the process, and often, those "happy accidents" can lead to something fresh and exciting. And stay tuned—next week, we’re diving deeper into right-hand technique! See you then, and happy playing! Timestamps: 0:00 Intro 0:23 Get the tab 0:41 Get into tune 1:07 Playthrough 1:27 Tab walkthrough - Line 1 5:09 some thoughts on tab 6:45 Tab walkthrough - Line 2
