CDTA Route 560 Express Bus Ride: 2015 MCI D4500CT 329 from Downtown Albany to Amsterdam

Taken on 9/22/22. Footage of 2015 MCI D4500CT 329 operating on CDTA's Route 560 from Downtown Albany (Swan Street & Washington Avenue) to Downtown Amsterdam (East Main & Market Streets). This route was created by CDTA as part of its Montgomery County expansion, starting service on August 29th along with Route 601 (local routes 600 and 602 started on the 28th). Route 560 is the combination of two predecessors into one route including: 1. CDTA's Route 530 Express Bus (Exit 26 Park & Ride to Downtown Albany) 2. Brown Coach's Empire State Plaza Run (Fonda, Amsterdam, Exit 26 P&R to Albany Locations) No other ride got on this bus, so I had the entire bus to myself during this entire trip (besides the operator). As a result we also skipped exit 26 and exit 27, and thus the deviations to serve those park & rides do not show up in this video. Additionally, no scheduled stops were made in Schenectady County. The ride and the scenery is drastically different from the more urban nature of various MTA and NJT express bus routes further down in the NYC region. This route transverses through predominantly rural areas, with several suburban areas in more denser parts of Albany County. The latter is in part due to the NY Thruway's route path in the region, but also due to a smaller urban area. Some houses and farms can be seen along the route at various segments in this video. They stop at Church & Federal Streets (Riverfront Center), Exit 27 Park & Ride, Exit 26 Park & Ride, then non-stop to Downtown Albany, terminating at the Empire State Plaza. Service runs along the New York State Thruway (I-87 and I-90). Return trips originate at Empire State Plaza and make the same stops in Downtown Albany as inbound trips, in the same order, before operating express to Exits 26, 27, and Downtown Amsterdam. The fare for this route is $1.50 in cash ($1.30 with the navigator card or mobile app). This is on par with the cost of the former route 530 express bus, and significantly cheaper than Brown Coach's previous Empire State Plaza Run. The best part is getting to ride a coach bus on the express bus at a local bus fare (since CDTA eliminated express surcharges many years ago, except for the Northway Express Bus). It appears that MCI coaches in Northway Express branding are being used on the 560. Service on this route is also greater than under the previous setup in each direction (4 trips on the 530; 1 trip on the Empire State Plaza Run post-covid). There are 5 inbound and 6 outbound trips on the 560, though not all trips operate the full route. One inbound trip originates at Exit 26 like the old 530, one outbound trip terminates at Exit 26, and another outbound trip terminates at Exit 27, without entering Downtown Amsterdam. Hopefully ridership picks up over time on this route, as this route is a fast and affordable link to get to Albany and various other destinations across the Capital Region. Thank you for watching!
