Cryptozoology Suite by Alejandro Guardia, Jr. Movement I: Thunderbird Fanfare The opening movement of Cryptozoology Suite pays homage to the legendary Thunderbird, a powerful creature from Native American mythology. The piece begins with a nebulous build, creating an atmosphere of anticipation. As the fog clears, we are thrust into a bold and energetic march. The heroic theme is introduced by the horns and trumpets, portraying the majestic flight of the Thunderbird. Midway through, conflict arises, signified by a dramatic increase in tension and the thunderous sounds of slapsticks in the percussion section. These sounds mimic the thunder that is said to accompany the Thunderbird's powerful wing flaps. The movement culminates in a triumphant resolution as the Thunderbird vanquishes its foes, and the music soars once more, celebrating the creature's victorious flight. Movement II: Encounter with the Sasquatch The second movement delves into the mystery and intrigue surrounding the elusive Sasquatch. It opens with a nebulous introduction that sets a suspenseful tone, capturing the eerie ambiance of a nocturnal forest. The music paints a picture of an exciting night-time expedition in search of the elusive creature. The first section is slow and cautious, reflecting the hunters' careful movements to avoid startling the Sasquatch. As the tension mounts, the tempo increases, mirroring the thrill of the chase as the hunters believe they have spotted their quarry. The music escalates into a short, frenetic pursuit, but ultimately, the Sasquatch eludes capture, leaving the hunters (and the listeners) with a lingering sense of mystery and wonder. Movement III: Waltz for Nessie The final movement transports us to the misty waters of Loch Ness, home of the legendary Loch Ness Monster, affectionately known as Nessie. A nebulous introduction sets the scene, leading into a graceful waltz that imagines Nessie dancing beneath the surface when no one is watching. The whimsical dance continues until Nessie notices a tourist, prompting a shift in the music to a more secretive, underwater theme. This second section conveys Nessie's attempts to evade the curious onlookers. As the coast clears, the music transitions back to the original waltz theme, concluding the suite with Nessie resuming her enchanting dance, hidden from the world above.
