Up next- The World's Most Accessible Amusement Park: • Dad Builds World's Most Accessible Amuseme... The National Theatre in London has made their performances more accessible to deaf and hard of hearing patrons with smart closed caption glasses that use augmented reality. The glasses pair transcripts of a performance with intelligent speech following software that’s able to recognize spoken words. They also recognize details like lighting and stage cues to deliver dynamic captions that are in-sync with the performance. Before the introduction of subtitle glasses in the National Theatre, deaf patrons had to watch an open captioning screen on the side of the stage, causing them to miss out on both nuanced and major aspects of a show. And previously, the National Theatre only offered 2-3 captioned performances per season. With their Smart Caption Glasses, they’ve now increased the number of performances accessible to the deaf and hard of hearing to 80%.
