There are plenty of exercises that are simply more complicated than they need to be. There are plenty of exercises that aren't the best, but are good enough to give a positiver result. You can't choose too good of an exercise, but obsessing over the absolute best can distract you from doing the work that will be more important for your progress. Keep things in perspective when looking to optimize your training, and even more importantly before you say anyone has to do one exercise over another. While kneeling behind the goal doesn't offer any stability or alignment benefits for lats training, if for some reason people like it, its not a detrimental exercise.
