요한 4,14 영원히 목마르지 않을 물 ,Water That Will Never Leave You Thirsty (John 4:14) 성경 말씀 묵상과 말씀을 함께 나눕니다. 태양이 가장 뜨겁게 내리쬐는 정오, 사람들의 따가운 시선을 피해 물을 길으러 온 한 여인이 있었습니다. 유다인들이 상종조차 하지 않던 사마리아 사람, 게다가 남편이 다섯이나 있었고 지금 사는 남자도 남편이 아닌, 상처 많고 기구한 여인이었습니다. 그런데 우물가에 앉아 계시던 예수님께서 먼저 그녀에게 "나에게 마실 물을 좀 다오" 하며 다가가십니다. 여인은 세상의 사랑과 사람의 인정, 그리고 육체적인 만족이라는 우물물로 자기 내면의 깊은 갈증을 채우려 했습니다. 하지만 세상의 물은 마시면 마실수록 더 지독한 목마름을 불러올 뿐이었습니다. 예수님은 그녀의 그 깊은 영적 허기를 꿰뚫어 보시고 말씀하십니다. "내가 주는 물을 마시는 사람은 영원히 목마르지 않을 것이다. 내가 주는 물은 그 사람 안에서 물이 솟는 샘이 되어 영원한 생명을 누리게 할 것이다." 성 아우구스티누스는 그의 고백록에서 "주님, 당신을 위해 우리를 내셨기에, 우리의 마음은 당신 안에서 쉬기까지는 결코 평안할 수 없습니다"라고 고백했습니다. 사마리아 여인이 겪었던 목마름은 결국 하느님만이 채워주실 수 있는 영혼의 근원적인 갈증이었습니다. 예수님과의 대화 속에서 자신이 진짜 누구인지, 그리고 진정으로 찾아야 할 생명수가 무엇인지 깨달은 여인은 어떻게 합니까? 그녀는 생명처럼 여겼던 물동이를 미련 없이 버려두고, 자신이 그토록 피하고 싶어 했던 사람들을 향해 동네로 달려갑니다. 영원한 생명수를 마신 자의 벅찬 기쁨이 그녀를 닫힌 감옥에서 해방시킨 것입니다. 여러분, 혹시 지금 세상의 성공이나 돈, 혹은 사람의 인정으로 채워지지 않는 깊은 공허함과 갈증을 느끼고 계신가요? 마실수록 더 목마른 세상의 우물가에서 서성이고 계시지는 않습니까? 우리의 상처받고 텅 빈 마음을 영원히 솟아오르는 기쁨과 평화로 채워주실 분은 오직 예수 그리스도, 살아있는 생명수 한 분뿐입니다. 마시지 않으면 죽을 것 같은 그 세상의 물동이를 버려두고 주님께 나아가십시오. 지금까지 요한복음 사장 십사절, 영원히 목마르지 않을 물, 사마리아 여인과의 대화였습니다. 성서의 향기는 가톨릭 교회의 깊은 신학적 전통 안에서 여러분이 하느님을 더 가깝게 만나실 수 있도록 정성을 다해 준비했습니다. 주님의 말씀은 시대를 넘어 우리 마음에 꺼지지 않는 빛이 되어 줍니다. 말씀을 묵상하는 모든 분의 가정에 주님의 평화가 가득하시길 빕니다. At noon, when the sun was beating down the hottest, there was a woman who came to draw water to avoid the harsh stares of people. She was a Samaritan, a people the Jews would not even associate with, and moreover, a woman with a tragic and wounded past, having had five husbands, and the man she currently lived with was not her husband. Yet, Jesus, who was sitting by the well, approaches her first, asking, "Will you give me a drink?" The woman tried to quench the deep thirst of her inner self with the well water of worldly love, human recognition, and physical satisfaction. However, the water of the world only brings a more severe thirst the more you drink it. Jesus pierces through her deep spiritual hunger and says, "Whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life." Saint Augustine confessed in his Confessions, "You have made us for yourself, O Lord, and our heart is restless until it rests in you." The thirst the Samaritan woman experienced was ultimately a fundamental thirst of the soul that only God could fulfill. What does the woman do when she realizes who she truly is and what the true water of life is that she must seek through her conversation with Jesus? She leaves behind her water jar, which she valued like her own life, without any lingering attachment, and runs into the town towards the very people she so desperately wanted to avoid. The overwhelming joy of having drunk the eternal water of life liberated her from her closed prison. Everyone, are you perhaps feeling a deep emptiness and thirst right now that cannot be filled by worldly success, money, or human recognition? Are you lingering by the world's well, where the more you drink, the thirstier you become? The only One who can fill our wounded and empty hearts with eternally springing joy and peace is Jesus Christ, the living water. Leave your worldly water jar behind and come to the Lord. This was John Chapter Four, Verse Fourteen, Water that will never leave you thirsty, the conversation with the Samaritan woman.
