In August 1989, while I was at sea, I got the call that my grandfather was dying. I was flown home on emergency leave, but I did not make it in time to say goodbye. He served before me, and his sense of duty shaped how I understood service and faith. His presence stayed with me through my own time in uniform. This song is about what we inherit from those who came before us, and the words we carry when we never get the chance to say goodbye. This project is human forward. All lyrics come directly from my journals. Music is developed and edited using modern tools while vocals are contributed by real people including local artists independent collaborators and the occasional talented astronomy student. If you have lost someone unexpectedly, I hope this song offers a moment of recognition and quiet respect. You are not alone in carrying that weight.
