Weighbridge - Keep K163 Going update

With the mechanical overhaul of Mornington Railway's K163 nearing completion, it was time to verify the locomotive wheel/axle loading. This is required as part of the rail worthy certification process. Fortunately the Newport workshops is one of the only locations in Australia with it’s 1912 heritage listed locomotive weight-bridge remaining fully operational. We see the volunteers working along side the Mechanical manager of Steamrail Victoria, Warren Hall. Who was wonderful in sharing is vast knowledge of the the weighting of steam locomotives, as well as his experience with the K classes Steam Locomotive in general. On the same weekend that the locomotive was on the weighbridge we also scheduled the inspection of our boiler for its annual certification by our external boiler inspector. Now that these major steps are completed it is time to continue further testing and commissioning to ensure all refurbished components are fitted correctly and running at the correct operating temperatures. It is also fantastic to have the engine remaining on site at the Newport Railway workshops, so to participate in the 2022 Newport Workshops Open days hosted by Steamrail Victoria, over the Labour day Long weekend 12-14 March.
